Dog Training: How to Handle Submissive Urination

By Dirk Gruenberg

It is not an easy task to handle submissive dogs. In order to avoid submissive urination the best thing you can do is to make your dog feel more confident. Simply learn how to train submissive dogs.

It is a good idea finding out what your dog's body language is all about, because your dog can show his submission in a lot of different ways. Some dogs lay back their ears, others will have their tail between their legs.

Something that happens quite often in case of submission is what we call submissive urination. What many people think is that their dog is urinating in front of them intentionally.

Do not think your dog wants to make you angry. Nothing is further from the truth. The fact is that your dog cannot control this kind of urination. Therefore it is a good idea to help your dog instead of possibly yelling at him. Yelling would only make him less confident.

You should handle your dog gently. Don't make him feel that he has done something wrong. Don't look directly into his eyes and avoid anything that makes your dog become excited.

You should know that excitement can also be a reason for your dog's submissive urination. This is why you should calm your dog down whenever something is about to make him excited.

What you want to do is to spend time with your dog. Maybe you play with him or do any kind of outdoor exercise. Do everything that increases the level of confidence in your dog.

There are a lot of ways to have fun with your dog. But be aware that it will take some time to train a submissive dog and make sure you are patient instead of being nervous yourself.

You need be calm and you need to be persistent. Submissive dogs need confidence and you should avoid any aggressive behavior. You can train your dog to stop submissive urination. You just need to have a good training program and persistence.
