The PS Vita from Sony is an exceptional new addition to the handheld console line-up. It is packed with some amazing new features that favor it as being the new king of handhelds. I'm excited about being one of the first to purchase a PS Vita! Depending on which model you get hold of (either 3G/Wifi model or Wi-Fi Only edition) listed here are 8 things I believe you will absolutely love about yours:
1. Front & Rear Cameras The Vita comes equipped with Front & Rear facing cameras. This will be an amazing feature for gamemakers to expand upon. Reality Fighters is one that makes great use of this. In this fighter game you can take self-portraits and load them straight into your in-game character's face, taking the experience to a whole new level with augmented reality.
2. 3G Internet On-The-Go The 3G+Wifi edition of the PS Vita is the latest edition to Sony's handheld line-up and comes ready to go with AT&T 3G capability, supported by AT&T's nationwide 3G network. This will give you access to online scores and leaderboards, multiplayer gaming so that you can face the competition while on the go, cross-game text messaging with friends, news and more. Finally having internet on the go (and not just in coffee shops) for your handheld will really allow you to enjoy multiplayer gaming to it's fullest. Another plus is that with internet access you will be able to instantly download hundreds of games for your PS Vita from the PlayStation Store
3. OLED 5" Touchscreen The PS Vita comes with a 5'' OLED multi-touch display displaying approximately 15 million colors. The graphics are beautiful as one would expect from the newest edition to the PlayStation handheld family. The gameplay videos of Virtual Tennis 4 look incredible, allowing you to serve up some authoritative aces and return volleys simply from swiping your finger across the screen.
4. Six-Axis Motion Sensor The six-axis motion sensor built into PS Vita is top notch. It allows for very responsive and accurate control when interacting in the game environment. I especially love the motion sensor for driving games. It makes you feel like you are really sitting in the driver's seat! I have my eyes on F1 2011 which is the only racing simulator available for it right this moment.
5. Rear Touch Pad The rear multi touch pad is a really neat feature. Instead of having to smudge up and block your beautiful OLED screen while navigating, you can simply drag your fingers across the Touch Pad across the rear of the device. This will give you more natural control of the device while in your hands while leaving your view of the screen obstruction-free so that you can continue to bask in it's display!
6. GPS With the 3G/Wi-FI connected Vita, you have an active GPS connection allowing you to locate and play with both friends and strangers that happen to be nearby. It's a very nice touch to the handheld and allows easy integration of social networking applications.
7. Cross Play Cross Play is the ability for you to take a game you started on one Sony console and continue on another. Cross platform play simply means you can start your game at home on the PS3 for instance, pause it mid-game, and continue playing the same game on the PS Vita right where you left off. Even better you can play multiplayer PS3 games from your Vita against other players on their PS3 consoles! It's an amazing feature although it is not compatible with every PS3 game at this time.
8. Dual Analog Sticks This is certainly one of my favorite features about the PS Vita. The PSP was my favorite handheld but my biggest complaint was trying to play Grand Theft Auto or Ghost Recon with only 1 joystick. Thank you Sony for Dual Analog Sticks! Forget about spray-and-pray and hello precision aiming! Now you can get down and dirty with your favorite first person shooter and experience the best of console gaming from your handheld.
The PS Vita is the most exciting handheld device available right now. The hardware is unmatched. The library of games available via the PlayStation store is extensive. You can't go wrong with the PS Vita.
