Flatware Caddy Basket

For something we depend on so regularly, there is surprisingly little information available about effectively using a dishwasher!

Everything from metal composition to the handle design, you will find there are thousands of options to explore. How many times have you broken a nail trying to scratch off that little "bit-o-mystery" sticking to that supposedly clean bowl or stainless steel flatware?

How often have you needed to drag out your scrub brush to get debris out of intricate flatware patterns? The nickel is the portion that helps keep the shine of the flatware.

Your dishwasher may be responsible, but it's likely the way you are loading it! Dishwashers are a great convenience.

Some items to watch for when you are looking for quality stainless steel flatware is there are similar items on the market that while they look similar. They will not provide you with good quality. Load all large items on the sides or in the back of the dishwasher.

While 18/0 is far cheaper, after a few uses it will quickly dull and become unappealing.

18/10 will provide a soft shine while protecting against corrosion. Another great thing about 18/10 stainless flatware is it provides a cost effective solution to the traditional silver flatware.

Crowding can leave soap embedded in intricate flatware patterns, creating more work for you than washing them by hand in the first place!

Stainless steel flatware and intricate flatware patterns need room to dry to avoid those dreaded spots. For example, flatware that is constructed from stainless steel is rated as dishwasher safe and considered to be ideal for everyday use, whereas silver flatware is not and must be washed and polished by hand. In addition to the extra care criteria, silver flatware is more costly than stainless.

Stainless steel flatware is manufactured in different grades as well. The highest quality stainless steel is referred to as 18/10 which means that it is 18% chromium and 10% nickel in composition. Stainless steel flatware is resistant to staining and rust proof because of the chromium whereas the luster and shine results from the nickel used in the composition. After that you would need to use silver polish on each utensil to keep its maintenance up.

Flatware is also manufactured with gold accents. Consider rinsing extra dirty pieces before putting them in the dishwasher. Protein foods such as eggs and cheese sometimes need an extra rinse because the dishwasher's heat 're-cooks' them right onto dishes, stainless steel flatware, and glasses.
